TextDrive

TextDrive offered four things in 2005, at prices that were honest.

Shared Hosting, from $12/month. “Features and tools our competitors can only dream of including,” the site said. That was accurate.

Business Hosting, from $60/month. For companies that had outgrown shared hosting but didn’t need a dedicated server.

Dedicated Hosting, from $1,000/month. Serious hardware, fully managed. Single servers to clusters.

Strongspace, from $8/month. Secure file storage and backup over SFTP or a web browser. A separate product, run alongside TextDrive on the same infrastructure.

The gap between $12 and $1,000 is the point. TextDrive served writers and developers who needed shell access and a reliable server, and companies that needed the same but more of it.
